Demoscene at Codebits 2009

Last year at Codebits we had a great demo project by my fellow teammate Bitcoder, called Nagalhães. This year we’ll have a presentation by PS about the demoscene.

In spirit, Codebits has always been a demo party to me, so these little pieces of demoscene creeping into it seem very appropriate.

Now, where did I put those demos I downloaded from the Starport BBS?

Isto era um post que queria ter escrito há mais tempo, mas cada vez passa mais tempo e continu sem um post bom e atempado. Aqui vai.

No fim de semana passado (17-18 Fev.) decorreu no IPJ do Parque das Nações a demoparty Breeze 2007. Desde já os meus parabéns à organização pela iniciativa.

Basicamente correu bem, sem sobressaltos, com muitos demos e muito tracking. Malta muito nova a fazer demos com uma qualidade excelente. Malta impecável que levou o home studio para a party e me fez lembrar que devia mesmo comprar um teclado a sério e actualizar-me no tracking pós-2000.

E ironicamente numa festa destas (as lanparties nasceram nas demoparties) zero de jogatanas e de leeching. Ok, havia uma NeoGeo Pocket e um Kanguru da Optimus, mas não contam.

Gostei bastante. Foi pena o Bitcoder não poder ter ido, mas o trabalho assim obriga. Foi também pena de não encontrar ninguém da velhinha Infinity Network. Talvez para a próxima?

Venha de lá a Breeze 2008.

Breeze Demoparty

A demoparty will take place here in Lisbon in February, 16-18th. Gaming is not allowed, apparently. Judging from the pre-registrations listed on the site there is not a lot of people coming, which is not unusual.

The demoscene here has always been a minor thing. Nowadays with the internet and cheap flights this has become less of a problem, it’s just too bad you grow old and lack all that free time you had when you were younger. There is a limit to what you can do while balancing work (and/or college) and family with your hobbies. Long gone are the days of long hours into the night in front of the computer trying to optimize a demo effect or trying new ideas.

Luckily, gone too are the days of dialling +358 12387128973 to reach Starport BBS to download the STMIK. If it still existed, it’s now much faster/cheaper/easier to just use www.starport.fi

Well, I’ll see what I can do with Schism Tracker until then.
