WTF?

Apple — Pedro Cardoso on October 12, 2006 at 11:23 pm

Upon starting my mac, nothing worked.

Safari hanged after booting, showing a blank page (only updated when I resized the window).

Camino complained about not being connected to the net. Pick one reason: crappy Netcabo service/Netcabo modem/Linksys wireless router, starting only to behave after power-cycling them.

Mail would then complain about the FastMail SSL certificate being invalid. Safari kept crashing, taking forever to quit.

The reason? I just had my Powerbook’s battery replaced, courtesy of Sony, and the date/time was somewhere in 1970. Setting the correct time fixed everything.

Go figure…

Not a good day for being a Mac user. Apart from this, I had a quote for €240 for a repair of my old G3 iBook. The reed switch broke and it’s €120 labour plus €60 parts. The laptop is worth €350, at most.

No thank you: I found the reed switch for $20 out there, and I know my way around a computer, so the next rainy saturday afternoon is going to be a lot of fun. I’ll post pictures! And I’ll set up a auction for the screws and little plastic parts that never seem to fit when assembling it back… :)
