Ver isto no queixas.co.pt.

Ora bolas! Rais’parta os escrúpulos…

Mac keys

Apple, Portugal — Pedro Cardoso on August 23, 2006 at 11:54 am

I keep seeing people using OSX and being unable to use accented characters when using the US keyboard layout, out of laziness or ignorance. For the later, here is my good deed for the day…

I use this ever since I got a Mac and couldn’t cope with the Portuguese layout. Some keys are in a different place than on standard PC keyboards, and the braindead mechanism of entering characters like square brackets and braces. I settled on using the US layout I was familiar with it from my DOS days when “KEYB PO” didn’t kick in from autoexec.bat.

Mac US Keyboard Dead Keys (typed before base character)

  • Option-n = tilde
  • Option-` = grave
  • Option-e = acute
  • Option-u = diaeresis/umlaut
  • Option-i = circumflex
  • Option-c = c-cedilla
  • Option-0 = º
  • Option-9 = ª

Note to future self

Marble madness

marillion - marbles

This has got to be my best CD purchase in months.. Years, maybe, that’s how much I liked this Marillion album. After the somewhat weak “Radiation” and “Anoraknophobia”, this is huge return.

It’s playing for the second time in a row and it’s awesome how refreshing this sounds. When can I see them touring here in Portugal? Marillion.com is completely absent on this, unfortunately.

I was going to whine about a crap CD tax I had to pay when buying some blank DVDs to backup my photos, but after listening to this I am not. :)
