Customs

Remember the digital photo frame I was going to do?

Well, I was waiting for some parts, mostly for an IDE-CompactFlash adapter I ordered from a guy in Hong-Kong through eBay and the good news it made it all the way to Portugal.

The bad news is that it’s waiting for some paperwork at the post’s customs.

Bah, a 5 euro package!

HTMLArea in Safari

HTMLArea in Safari

After updating my Powerbook to the 10.4.4 update of Mac OS X, I tested the demo page of HTMLArea and it’s working. There are some bugs, like clicking on the style/font/size dropdown boxes unselects the selected text, and the image picker popup is somewhat broken, but this is the regular HTMLArea thingy that hasn’t seen an update in months.

TinyMCE, FCKEditor (unfortunate name) and the HTMLArea fork, Xinha, being more up to date should work better, given the time to deal with the quirks Safari requires.

MWSF ’06 Predictions

Actually this is more a wish than a prediction, but I just wished my iPod Shuffle had a screen and worked as a Bluetooth headset for my phone.

This would be great, but at the slight expense of battery life. But I never charge my Shuffle. The thing always seems to have battery power.

New purchase

Uncategorized — Pedro Cardoso on January 9, 2006 at 2:12 am

Got home in Lisbon and unpacked my most recent purchase: a brand new Nintendo Gamecube, 3 games and a wireless controller, all for 100 euro. Last xmas while browsing the new Media Markt store in Aveiro I spotted a very interesting pack: a Gamecube with Mario Kart Double Dash for 50 euro. At first I thought it was a mistake on their part but no, it was the real deal.

I didn’t buy it at the time, but it started thinking about it. Short on imagination to come up with some xmas gift for my brother, I joined the two and returned to the store to buy one of those packs for him. That time there was no Mario Kart pack, but for the same price I bought a Resident Evil 4 pack, for the same price, added some games they had on the (very small) GC shelf, each for 10 euro. Ok, old games, but games I still see in Fnac and El Corte Inglés still for 60 euro. I added a GC controller for another 10 euro (saw one at Fnac for 36 euro). El Corte Inglés had the same Resident Evil pack for 132 euro, and their boxes seem like they have been on a shelf for some years, with faded and scratched covers.

Spent most of the xmas day playing with the thing and I liked it so much I decided to get one for myself, and sort of keeping up to date with console gaming, a world I departed from years ago along with my NES.

Upon returning to Lisbon the day after xmas, I searched for that GC pack here and the only one I could find was the mentioned “deal” at El Corte Inglés. Definitely I was not getting one of those.

Thankfully, I returned to Aveiro this weekend and the first thing I did yesterday morning was crash at Media Markt. Now they had Mario Kart GC packs, the regular controllers were gone, but they had the wireless version for 3 euro more (a whopping 13 euro).

So to sum things up, I have less 100 euro in the bank, but I’m now the happy owner of a brand new Gamecube (50) with a extra wireless controller (13), Mario Kart Double Dash (bundled), Wario World, Pikmin, Waverace Blue Storm and F-Zero GX, each for 10 euro.

In the next few weeks I think I’ll add some more games to the library and a couple more controllers, while I can get them for this price. Media Markt certainly impressed me with this.

Now, some quick gaming before bed. See ya… :)
